  3. The Ukraine war, bizarrely with European elites' complicity, has permitted the US to severely weaken two potential rivals in both Europe and Russia as per its 1992 Wolfowitz Doctrine. Speaking dispassionately, it was utter foreign policy genius. Two birds with one stone. Speaking personally as a Brit and a European it was a massive act of self-harm and a blatant attack by the US on the security and stability of Europe.

  5. Well said. The only thing I would add to that is that Putin - and I'm never sure if he was entirely serious or not - offered to join Nato back in the early Noughties. Initially greeted positively by the US, at least publicly, they then went away and thought about it and the answer was a big fat no. For obvious reasons.
