Economic history shows us that interest rates have to exceed inflation rates at some point in order to squash it. We're nowhere near that point. Particularly in Europe. Well over a decade of perennially low interest rates in the pursuit of increasingly difficult to source debt-fuelled growth doesn't exactly bode well here does it? The testosterone-fuelled bull has been allowed to rampage around the china shop for years and we're now trying coax it back into its box with some crappy old hay.

Err, the governments and financial elites of no modern economy never ever really want to see full employment. It is, almost by definition, inflationary. Biden has to make it sound desirable, particularly as 'a democrat' but ultimately, if quietly, it's the last thing he wants to see Cue lots of performative Democratic hand wringing when the Fed finally and deliberately sucks the air out of this, but the brutal truth is is that's what they both want.
