  1. The prevailing low interest rate environment off the back of 2008 has been a serious error of judgement from central banks and was always going to bite us on the bum eventually. Factor in QE, covid and Ukraine and it starts to look reckless if not borderline criminal. 'Financial wizard ' Bernanke, along with a good many Nobel winners incidentally, should be handing back his award with immediate effect.

  4. Great point at the end by the young American fella regarding respecting China's redlines. Ukraine was always Russia's well known redline and we all know how that has miserably ended up. It's all very well thinking you're the Land of the Free, the beacon of democracy and the upholder of mom's apple pie for all but you have to face the fact that not only does not everyone think and feel the same way as you do but also constantly pushing for those 'values' has the potential to present seriously deleterious for all mankind.

  5. Interest rates were kept so low for so long essentially because of trickle down theory. If you can keep people buying real estate and assets and ensure their prices keep going up then you can do so by keeping borrowed money cheap and tempt them with ever rising values. It was a sleight of hand. A way of keeping the plates spinning. A can kicked endlessly down the road. A game of musical chairs where the music eventually had to stop and we ran out of chairs. Now? There has to be a reckoning for these years of expediency.

  6. Don't have a problem with pornography per se and even if I did a world that didn't actually permit it in some form or other would be far more scary and oppressive than the current one. The issue, for me, is always how easy it is to access for young men of all ages. Anything universally and officially accepted that confirms you're over 18, be it to purchase whatever alcohol, legal highs etc that is legal at that age, should be enough. This 'blanket ID' would ensure a sufficient degree of anonymity and although I'm sure it would be open to exploitation - what isn't? - it would go some way to restricting young people's access to pornography.

  10. @@Phil-cl9ce Yep, it's not a happy coincidence that the dominant asset owning classes in the US, most notably the top 10% saw their wealth gradually increase substantially after the years following the 2008 financial crash and the debt chicanery that was undertaken in order to 'save' the financial system.
