The same covid polarisation Great Plague/mild flu views that Gave posits about China are equally applicable to the west too sadly.

After all the craven 'following the science' BS from our UK politicians during covid it became clear only a few months in that they were actually following the scientists and statisticians who could consistently conjure up the worst case scenarios. This became self perpetuating, literally a death spiral, where competing factions of these 'expert communities' would try and outbid each other with ever more doomladen prophecies. What we saw over covid was an utterly shameful, deeply damaging abrogation of responsibility from our political class the deleterious effects of which we will endure for years to come.

The same people can't die twice. Covid, in its various iterations and in the vast majority of cases, sought out the known to be most vulnerable. For the virus it was always going to be about the law of diminishing returns. All this crap about it being the next Spanish Flu and killing 40 or 50m was misinformed or disingenuous scaremongering. Far more worryingly, Spanish Flu killed mainly young people, particularly immunosuppressed young men who were returning from the exceptionally brutal first world war hundreds or thousands of miles away. This was also in the days before antibiotics so most of those deaths were actually due to secondary, mainly pulmonary, infections not the flu virus itself.

The average age of a UK covid death still to this day remains at 83. Two years longer than than the actual average death age of 81 FFS!!
