  2. The problem here is that 'hate crime' is subjectively defined by the perceived 'victim' rather than being objectively defined by law. If that woman police officer or those other officers saw that remark as 'a hate crime' then it is indeed 'a hate crime' according to the law because she says it is and, bizarrely, the police are obliged to act. Truly a dystopian rabbit hole we're disappearing down here.
