  2. The bicoastal wealth divide highlighted by VDH closely mirrors the 'Somewheres vs Anywheres' divisions exhibited in the UK over the Brexit debate. The problem, of course, is that these 'anywhere' people who like to see themselves as 'wealthy citizens of the world' still have to live 'somewhere'.

It is fascinating, and obviously a reflection of our times, but criticism of China and its policies often invites the charge of 'racism' from some quarters, particularly if it comes from the American Trumpian right, but similar criticism of Russia, much of which comes from the American left, never invites a similar charge.
