Its colonial outpost and tripwire there to provide an excuse for interventions and prevent the rise of regional powers like Iran. It's not solely about oil either but also about protecting its vital global trade pinch points. As Joe Biden famously said in 1987 if Israel didn't exist then the United States would have to invent an Israel.

  6. Ultimate conspiracy theory perhaps, but I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised, revealed in the fullness of time, that there wasn't a mutually beneficial deal between the UK 'elites' and US 'elites' way back when seamlessly passing on the imperial baton.
