Whatever your politics this all started in 2016 with Trump's election and the Democrats spending the next four years trying to systematically delegitimise his presidency, thereby demonising roughly half the country's voters. This laid the battlelines for what we are seeing today. America's democracy is polarised and in peril, but I have little doubt as to when this began and who set the ball rolling.
