Politicians and economists are afraid to use the term any more because it freely admits effectively to the state giving already rich people free money through governmenrt policy, but the ever climbing debt levels still point to the fact that the false narrative of trickle down is alive and well sadly.

Though it's an integral part of the peddled money/debt narrative that most people (mis)understand and are meant to our taxes don't, in reality, pay for anything. When we pay them they effectively disappear into the ether and then, arguably, simply create the space for more debt creation. What taxes are often then is a useful political divide and rule tool.
