Yeah, historians posit that the main driver behind Japan's attack on USA's Pacific fleet was its lack of access to oil to feed its then imperial ambitions in the region. Gambling, incorrectly, that the isolationist US would elect to sue for peace. God forbid that what's happening in Gaza would have anything to do with securing precious resources, serving as a wedge and asserting a presence in a distant region rather than serving the interests of freedom, democracy and apple pie. Just as it did in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Ukraine and elsewhere in fact.

This 'war' is SO significant because it cuts to the heart of US politics itself and ME regional geopolitics more generally. Even today Israel could not exist without the huge sums being pumped into it by the US and nor could it fight this 'war' without its unequivocal political support and military hardware. Nor is it a coincidence that all three main US 2024 presidential contenders all rely on an all too infrequently touched upon quid pro quo relationship with the US Israel lobby AIPAC along with its two all powerful political parties. Make no mistake this isn't JUST about Gaza and the Western-sanctioned systematic murders of thousands of Palestinians, it's also about the blatant ongoing corruption of the body politics of the world's and history's most powerful countries.

@rhwinner I'm assuming you're being rhetorical? It's not a war anyway. The State of Israel is engaging in the collective punishment - a war war crime incidentally - of civilian Palestinians in Gaza predominantly using US and Western supplied weaponry and with either their full or tacit blessing. Israel has now dropped the explosive equivalent of three Hiroshima bombs on one of the most densely populated areas on the planet. The majority of those dying, over 18k and rising now, are likely women and young people under 18. October 7th was an atrocity, but only a fool or a liar would claim that it came out of nowhere. Gaza and the West Bank with their increasingly violent illegal settlers backed by the IDF and Israeli police were a powder keg. The more outrageous Israeli propaganda claims have since been debunked and a number of Israeli deaths, including at the festival, were the result of friendly fire from Israeli Apache helicopters. Can you honestly imagine these Hamas fighters surrendering after this to an oppressive regime like Israel and can you honestly imagine that they won't return in some form or another in future?

I can certainly appreciate Glen's conundrum here. It's always a fine line between giving the majority of your 'paying' audience what you believe they want and what you think they need to hear on a divisive issue like this, particularly in a fragile monetized environment such as this. Eyeballs are cashflow one way or another and a 20% loss is not a trivial sum. What I would guess is that the majority of those who have stopped watching have likely also unsubscribed so they're already lost. Not necessarily forever, but likely for some time. One thing's for sure I believe enough in the integrity of this man, unlike many others, to ultimately do the right for the right reasons.
