The right to free speech is ultimately there to protect those with whom you disagree not those with whom you agree. What I'm seeing more and more are people, and not just in the USA, willing to see what should be inalienable free speech rights suppressed simply on the basis that don't agree with what is being said. THAT tells you all you need to know about what is going on here.

Hate speech is today's McCarthyism. Back in the 1950s most red-blooded patriotic Americans could not fail to wish to stem the threat of Communism seeping insidiously into the institutions and society of the good ol' democratic USA. Who of sound, decent mind, similarly, wouldn't be opposed to the idea of stifling 'hate' speech? People will acquiesce to the most evil of practices if they are duped into believing that they are being done for the greater long term good. People seriously need to sit up and take notice of what the ultimate consequences are of this, who's doing it and why.

The internet is a threat to the establishment. Period. Prior to its ascent it was far easier to ignore or not even hear certain POVs or to shut them down without most people being aware. The internet is truly a means of mass communication and an incredible way of disseminating ideas, information, propaganda etc to as many people as possible. That isn't in any way to say that it doesn't come with issues, deadly serious in some cases, but overall it clearly represents the biggest threats to those who don't wish to see an enlightened more engaged populace. Hence the current 'disinfo wars' being conducted in the name of defining the impossible absolute truth.
