  1. Kissinger let the US 'reds under the bed' mindset cat out of the bag when he mistakenly referred to the 'Soviets' instead of the 'Russians'.

  2. Nato and the EU were always in lockstep as they marched across Eastern Europe. EU did the softening up job and then NATO membership usually followed.
