  1. Hitchens makes a very good point about why this is being permitted to happen by our political establishment ie the perpetuation of the low wage economy. Time for a truly open and frank debate about what amounts to unchecked immigration to this country. There are certainly pros and cons, I accept that, but uncontrolled immigration into what are inevitably predominantly poorer areas and the resulting competition for and stress upon already squeezed resources is bound to foment discord. A load of well to do do-gooders like Welby who won't in all honesty experience those stresses sounding off about compassion for your fellow man might sound virtuous, but it's offensive to those who are continually forced to endure the consequences of his posturing.
