  1. This presupposes that the alternative is a free market and that one exists when it plainly doesn't. Many 'private' businesses, particularly 'shareholder owned' mega ones, continue to enrich themselves and exist solely because they are sucking on the government teat one way or another. Capitalism, or wherever you want to call it, since the late 1970s has resulted in a massive wealth transfer upwards and ever greater concentrations of wealth.
