  1. From what I've heard recently NATO Article 5 isn't quite the straightforward 'attack on one is an attack on all' that then merits coordinated military action by all members it's made out to be. What it actually says in its full glorious legalese is that members, 'will take the actions it deems necessary to assist the Ally attacked.' Which is not quite the same thing. Any response then is to be individually determined by the elected politicians of each member state and doesn't compel them to make a military response..
