  2. I think it's fair to say that the US led West had effectively been violating the 1994 Budapest Memorandum for years prior to Russia's invasion. 'Refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by the signatory of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.' It even went so far as to sponsor a coup against Ukraine's democratically elected leader in 2014 FFS. Not only that, but the legal status of that document is questionable as it was negotiated purely at a political level and gave only 'reassurances' NOT legal 'guarantees'.
