@DiegoCardona-pe9vr The tragedy here is that just about every country in the world, including its neighbours, believes it can weigh in on Venezuela's democratic processes and have done for years now. If it didn't have oodles of oil the US and its western allies would be markedly less interested in its fate and that of its people. And so the cycle of US sanctions and coups, puppet opposition candidates, domestic oppression and economic mismanagement under Maduro, dubious elections and mass emigration, principally to the US Southern border, continues unabated.

Democracy can only survive and flourish through losers' consent. Once it's gone, democracy is lost.

@bowenboshier2336 Long history of Democrats calling into question the results of US elections before Trump and the integrity of electronic voting machines. Carter, HRC and Harris amongst many other Democrat leading lights ALL called Trump's 2016 presidency 'illegitimate'.

2012 BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Former US President Jimmy Carter stated “As a matter of fact, of the 92 elections that we've monitored, I would say the election process in Venezuela is the best in the world" during the kickoff of the Annual Conversations at the Carter Center series. Basing his opinion on the vast experience amassed by the institution observing and monitoring elections around the world, Mr. Carter praised the South American nation for having a voting system that makes verifying results an easy task.'

Mind you, this was the same Jimmy Carter who effectively called Trump's 2016 election victory illegitimate....

@DiegoCardona-pe9vr Thanks for your informative perspective. I think as an outsider I tend to follow the Leftist, anti-US imperialist line, much of which comes from US journos. The US seems to want useful to them client states under the false premise of 'spreading democracy' and Venezuela with its notoriously rich oil deposits fits that bill. Oil is often a curse, particularly in developing nations with fragile democracies. I look at Cuba after 60 years of US sanctions and it is always the common people who suffer.

@DiegoCardona-pe9vr The big problem being of course is that the US has sponsored at least 3 coups in Venezuela since 2002 in their attempts to overthrow what are, essentially, democratically elected governments. The more recent 'hybrid' Guaido attempt being the most brazen attempt at the US thumbing its nose at Venezuelan democracy whereby they officially recognised a relative unknown as Venezuela's president elect when he hadn't even faced an electorate. These coups and periods of civil dissent tend to have one particular vector in common too, that being Maria Corina Machado. Venezuela's gold has also been illegally seized by the Bank of England in that time. Were I Venezuelan, whatever my politics, be they left or right, whether I think that neoliberal economics or state ownership is the answer to all our ills, I would be seriously p*ssed off that an outside government(s) with its own blatant imperial ambitions thought that it should get to dictate who MY government is.

@DiegoCardona-pe9vr Google/YT blocked my polite, factual and verifiable reply. Sadly, it is illustrative.

@stevanr9937 Senior US Democrats repeatedly questioned the results of their own elections up to and including Trump's in 2016.

I'm genuinely interested and I know someone personally who would agree with you, but what exactly is he saying that is 'sus'?
