I also think a lot of it comes down to the fact that the US, and certainly for those alive there today, has never really directly experienced the level of threat it is potentially facing today in the nuclear age thanks to the war it has been heavily instrumental in stoking in Ukraine. Pearl Harbour was the last time it was on the receiving end of any large scale significant direct foreign aggression and that was on the island of Hawaii, over 2000 miles from the US mainland. To all intents and purposes the US has developed an island mentality. Surrounded by water on two sides and two essentially benign non-aggressive countries above and below it. This has created a sense not only of security and invulnerability but also engendered a sense that it can act politically and militarily elsewhere in the world largely with impunity.

@questworldmatrix “America has no permanent friends or enemies, only interests”. Henry Kissinger. There existed a US military plan to invade Canada during the intervening period between the first and second world war. It was part of a scenario which war gamed a potential conflict with the British Empire of which Canada was part. It was called War Plan Red.

@LuiSharPei And NATO used depleted uranium in those attacks too.

How on God's earth do the people escalating this situation imagine it's going to end up? Do they know something we don't about how this could never go nuclear and if so what? If they don't we're definitely entering Major T.J. 'King' Kong Dr Strangelove territory here.

Hold your horses there son. Remember the West is engaged in exporting 'liberal democracy' for the good of mankind remember, no matter how many innocent souls it consumes in the process.
