'Anyone who seriously wants to be a politician shouldn't be allowed'. Politicians, Ken Clarke included, are mostly myopic managerial can kickers. As long as they're not the ones left holding the baby when the music stops then it's not their problem and they've done their jobs in their eyes. Most of these decisions, like the decades of shabby concrete and flammable building cladding, aren't party political as such anyway they're down to a few people looking to enrich themselves and their mates by saving a few quid or punting some public monies their way.

When these buildings were built, some decades ago, surely it was known at the time that this material wasn't designed to last forever? It seems safe to assume it was used precisely because it was cheaper than the alternatives and the downside of that was that it wouldn't last as long because it was of poorer quality. WTF is the big mystery or alleged cover up here? Someone must've been aware. All I can see is a bunch of politicians, yet again as happened with covid, opportunistically using a so-called crisis for their own ends and a load of craven 'experts' taking the path of least resistance and saying all these buildings are in danger of imminent collapse.
