Likely around 40% of the UK's electricity is generated using 'clean' gas in gas fired power stations. That's pretty high compared to other countries across Europe. By contrast, in France, 70% of its electricity is generated using nuclear and in Norway 90% of its electricity traditionally comes from hydropower. Hungary derives almost 50% of its electricity from nuclear and most of the rest from gas and coal. Basically, I'm guessing it all boils down to the energy mix and how a country's electricity is generated.

@maartent9697 In terms of gas consumption in Europe, Germany, the UK and Italy are the real outliers.

@010O Your energy mix does though. The UK generates up to 50% of its electricity from gas.
