  1. Twitter is an increasingly a tarnished brand and is 'worth' a helluva lot less than say a year ago, measured in many, many billions. Musk potentially sacrificing a billion to pull out of the deal to buy and own company now worth many, many billions less than his initial bid (subject to a potential court case that could either end up costing him much more or possibly less) seems like an on-balance gamble he's willing to take.
