@deanodebo Aah, I see. So you're not neutral. You seem to have a pretty clear idea to me. Firstly this arguably happened in our lifetimes. Not hundreds of years ago. Secondly, you believe that because it wasn't a fully defined sovereign territory on a map in the 20th century sense the people who lived there for centuries and who've been relatively recently displaced and dispossessed en masse by incoming immigrants with little or no connection to said land they're assuming for themselves have a far lesser right to claim ownership of it. Is that correct?

They're Palestinians and Gaza was originally part of Mandated Palestine. It is regarded today as one of the Occupied Territories. Hamas regard Israel as their oppressors, dispossessors and the State of Israel as occupying their historical lands not the Egyptians. Israel was and perhaps still is hoping to push the Gazans into the Egyptian Sinai, but President Sisi will not and cannot allow it as it would fundamentally destabilise his own fragile Western backed regime.

From its own internal security POV Egypt plays its role in keeping its border with Gaza strictly controlled in agreement with Israel, but your question was why didn't Hamas attack Egypt. Which I believe I answered. Sure, Palestinians trapped in the hellhole of Gaza currently would gladly escape to the relative safety of Egypt now, but that's not the point. We are talking about a specific land area that a specific group of people have a specific history and affinity with and they believe they have been dispossessed of. In the case of the Palestinians that's historic 'Palestine' NOT the country next door.

@deanodebo No one needs to pretend anything. Most of those Palestinians in countries like Jordan and Lebanon are effectively refugees and are living in camps. They're there not through choice, but due to historical circumstances occurring mostly over the last 100 years since Mandated Palestine ie fleeing numerous conflicts. You're asking why Egypt doesn't let them in there and I've told you why and you asked why Hamas didn't also attack Egypt which I've also answered. The relatively tiny Hamas's beef is quite clearly and understandably with Israel NOT with Egypt. Finally, if you're so concerned about their historic claims to Palestine perhaps you'd like to explain how so many European Ashkenazi Jews with next to no connection with the land happened to end up there in the space of less than a century?

@deanodebo I suggest you go look at the populations, both Jewish and Muslim, of Palestine over the last 2000 years. The state of Israel was only created in 1948 and the numbers of Jews there only started to increase significantly in the 1930s due to growing antisemitism in Europe through migration ie European Jews fleeing persecution in place like Germany and Eastern Europe. Only with tacit Western backing and violence were they steadily able to displace the indigenous Palestinians who lived there. So what, you may say. That's life and that's not a million miles away from how the USA came to be, but it's not difficult to see why Palestinians are doing what they're doing either, I would argue. Israel is a relatively recent settler colonial state that Americans have funded to the tune of over $300bn since its inception and are continuing to do so. The reasons? As self-proclaimed Zionist Joe Biden himself said chidingly in the 1980s, 'If Israel didn't exist we'd have to INVENT an Israel in the Middle East' and, basically, it's American money well spent in his opinion principally for geopolitical reasons. That's what you're paying for as an American taxpayer and thus it's up to you to reflect on whether that is a situation you're happy with and will continue to support regardless.

@deanodebo Don't for one moment confuse extreme Zionism with anti-Semitism. Israel and some Jewish people attempt to in order to excuse their actions, but it's wearing pretty thin now. Criticising the actions of the state of Israel have zero to with anti-Semitism. Some of the most vociferous, eloquent critics of Zionists and the treatment of Palestinians are in fact Jews like Finkelstein. Katie Halper, Max Blumenthal, Aaron Mate, Glen Greenwald to name but a few. What's happening in Gaza isn't being done by 'Jews' it's being done by Israelis. Bad ones. Their faith really has nothing to do with it. Even Netanyahu is secular. As have many of his previous 'illustrious' predecessors been. As to your claim on Palestine as a Christian what exactly would you base that on. I mean seriously? In terms of Syria, yet another Western/US inspired brutal war in a similar vein as Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan, what do you mean exactly by your claim that nobody cares about it? Again, it wasn't that long ago that Syria was held up as one of the more liberal, stable, multi-ethnic regimes in the Middle East until 'we' in the West decided to shake things up a little. Assad, with the help of the Russians, has been busily fighting ISIS. Essentially a Sunni Islam death cult that arose directly out of the ashes of the US invasion of Iraq but upon the basis that 'my enemy's enemy is my friend' the US and Israel have previously sided with because its waging war against Assad. The Middle East is a mess, but there's little doubt that 'we' are responsible for making it far worse than it would be.

@lineomabulu9857 I think the fundamental issue is what is actually happening to the people in Gaza now and can and should it be stopped, don't you? Hamas's position on the existence of Israel is oft stated and well known, but I don't think it should be used as an excuse for genocide or using mass starvation as a weapon of war.

Perhaps a valid rhetorical question, but all I would say is that, without wishing to sound too reductive or glib, there are good people and bad people. 'Jews' or 'Nazis' aren't doing this. Bad people are. It's that simple.
