  1. I really like Chris Hedges' output generally, but this one is little more than a misguided polemic in my opinion. Japan isn't experiencing inflation in the same way as other Western economies because its particular circumstances are unique and chronic. Decades of economic stagnation, steadily declining living standards, substantial capital outflows, enduring low interest rates, heavily government subsidised corporations and consumer products has led to few higher wage demands and next to no inflationary pressures. In the US and Europe it's not, as Woolf says, greedy employers simply deciding to raise prices. It's much more complicated than that.
