Love Chris Hedges mostly but this is a subject upon which I part company with him. Wild fires in the US have, arguably, increased since the 1950s but not exponentially according to US forestry service records according to acreage burnt. What's interesting is that by far the worst years were in the 1930s, but invariably you'll only ever see a graph showing a steady if highly erratic increase from the 1950s, but it'll be nothing compared to the early thirties which they don't show. Also notable is that there is roughly the same acreage today, if not a little more, of forest in the US than at the beginning of the 19th Century so we are, in effect, comparing like with like.

There's definitely more than a hint of misanthropy when it comes to some man made climate change advocates. As I always say to people though, don't worry about saving the planet, the planet will be fine. It will long outlast any human or manifestation of humanity that might exist upon it.

The human population has exploded over the last century or so and so, inevitably, has our coverage as a species of the planet. Little wonder that we're noticing these extreme weather events more. There's far more of us in places that we never used to be and in ever greater densities in developed places where we've long been so the level of destruction is so much greater in the event of fire, floods etc.

@susanmercurio1060 Climate change advocates often refer to humans as 'a cancer', 'predatory' or parasites as if the planet would be automatically better off without. Really it's a moot point. We're here until we aren't basically and the planet will long outlast us regardless.

@susanmercurio1060 Algo removed previous reply unfortunately so excuse the somewhat bland language. A planet far better off without or with far fewer human beings on it often forms part of their man made climate change narrative.

@susanmercurio1060 Like to, but YT will not permit.
