Great discussion here as ever but on a more positive note, if I were Australian, 40% debt to GDP is perfectly manageable and not anything like the largely avoidable complete sh*thole the UK and others have just dug over the last couple of years. The problem here is that hard working people everywhere will ultimately and directly bear the brunt of this madness and the faceless global masters of financialisation will make a profit thanks to interest off this regardless.

And when the 2008 financial crisis hit Australia was far better placed than many thanks to the likes of Mr Anderson. That's what happens when a 'farmer' like him has a hand in running an economy. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best...mend the roof whilst the sun is still shining etc...

@yt.damian National debts in otherwise functioning healthy economies and democracies don't necessarily have to be paid down and nor do surpluses necessarily have to be consistently achieved. They merely need to be responsibily managed.
