@laurenceBDontYaNo Er, because we've actually left and left as the result of democratic vote. A simple majority democratic vote the rules of which everyone understood before it took place. Had it gone the other way, even by the same margin, those who voted to leave would have accepted the result. Old fashioned to some, but it's kinda how democracy works.

@siegeupon5894 The number of people lining up to defend Alistair Campbell, one of the principle architects of the Iraq invasion, would certainly suggest that they're not exactly 'good people", no.

@laurenceBDontYaNo Your own actions are to support the mainstream parties which are all attempting to thwart or dilute Brexit to the point of pointlessness. Read the Labour and Liberal 2019 manifestos on Brexit. THAT is why there is no UKIP equivalent of Rejoin, because there is no need. You're being disingenuous basically.

@laurenceBDontYaNo So why, might you posit, isn't there a party campaigning to rejoin the EU? UKIP took 25 years to get a referendum on EU membership so presumably you're at the forefront of the campaign to rejoin. What active steps are you personally taking?

These aren't recent arguments. They've been around for decades. Tony Benn's five tests of democracy, like Hovis, are as good today as they've always been: “What power have you got?” “Where did you get it from?” “In whose interests do you use it?” “To whom are you accountable?” “How do we get rid of you?”

@laurenceBDontYaNo You entered into and voted in a democratic referendum in 2016 in bad faith that you have freely admitted by your answers you had absolutely NO intention of ever seeing honoured. Labour and Tory MPs in 2017 stood on manifestos that pledged to honour that 2016 result posing the question, 'Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union? ' and they were duly elected in their hundreds as a result. And yet what followed was 2 plus years of them attempting to water down or even nullify that result. You, sir, and those who think similarly are anti-democratic.

Appropriately, a bit like the drunk at the bar who hates to drink alone, he wants to make sure that everyone is as miserable and desperate as he is. Misery loves company, so the saying goes. Still, if I had the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people on my hands, literally, thanks to something I'd done I'd be in a pretty dark place too.

Call me an old cynic, but this lady knows her stuff. Campbell, like the seasoned, consumate media professional he supposedly is and though he purported to not have barely heard of her, seems to have adopted a tactic deliberately deployed to squash any meaningful debate with her. Hmmmm...

If you look at the history of the UK's membership of the EU no UK political party did more, ironically, to embroil this country in the EU than the Tories. From Heath to Thatcher to Major who delivered the real coup de grace with signing the sovereignty busting 1990 Maastricht treaty with no direct reference to the UK electorate before or after doing so. As Douglas Hurd, then Foreign Secretary, blithely quipped at the time, 'now we've signed it, we'd better read it'. No surprise really. It's a neoliberal project at its heart and little wonder that Euroscepticism used to be the unique preserve of the Left until 1990.

@mikemcgurk1447 And Mr Farage, living in a democracy as we do, would have been perfectly at liberty to carry on his campaign. As to how many people would support him after such a referendum result would be pure conjecture, but I suspect it wouldn't have been significant. Most leave voters, I believe, would have accepted that democratic result for what it was, unlike many remainers. In a way that encapsulates the difference in mindset between the two groups and as epitomised by the likes of Campbell. Some regard the process and the result it delivers as sacrosanct, whether they agree with it or not, and some, unfortunately, do not....

@laurenceBDontYaNo The Tory party certainly are not my party I can assure you. By far the majority of the MPs voted in in 2017 stood on manifesto pledges to fully honour that referendum result to leave the EU as per the VERY specific referendum question. Would you swear on your life that those very MPs that took their seats that year, all to a man and woman, did their utmost to honour that pledge that helped to secure their parliamentary seats? What is obvious to me, and it's not exactly surprising to me given the structure and attitudes which prevail in the EU itself, is that the really vociferous remainers (which I assume includes the likes of you and Campbell) aren't simply undemocratic you're actually 'anti-democratic'.
