'Why then, if your big thing is feminism or abortion or gay marriage, are you so certain that the cult of tolerance will prevail once the biggest demographic in your society is cheerfully intolerant?' Mark Steyn.

Not to deny that bigotry doesn't exist, but we mustn't forget that many of these darkly cynically engineered grievances can actually distract from other, far bigger, wider societal ills and that they are so often just lucrative grifts for those individuals and organisations that insist on propagating them.

For many centuries archaeologists have just been digging up pretty much either men or women. The archaeologists of the distant future are going to have a devilishly hard time when they start digging people up from the 2000s aren't they?

Agree, but he'd have to repudiate his position on Blair and Bush's Iraq war.

Salem witch trials? History doesn't necessarily repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

Speaks volumes to hear that AD, a gay man, regularly invites Stonewall onto his GB news show and they've never, ever accepted.

'Islam' isn't the problem per se. The fact that people aren't able to openly, legally and, most crucially, safely critique it in what should be a free society is.

Interesting point AD makes on the denial of the existence of a culture war by the SJWs. It's akin to the Critical Race Theory's damned if you do, damned if don't take on being a racist whereby you either are a self-proclaimed one or your denial of being racist is in itself a tacit admission that you are one. Wicked, disingenuous, dishonest, manipulative, shameless, shameful stuff.

@martynspooner5822 A good many people seem to wilfully misunderstand the principle of free speech and why it's so important to defend it as just that, regardless of whether you personally always agree with what is being said. The bitter irony, particularly where Islam is concerned, is that Christianity in the West has also been thereabouts itself in the not so dim and distant past. Its more unpalatable bigoted, chauvinistic, authoritarian aspects evolved or even disappeared completely precisely because people increasingly felt safe and able to criticise it.

The Salem witch trials obviously occurred amidst a backdrop of religious puritanism but also incredibly harsh existences where people were living under the constant threat of deadly diseases like smallpox and native Indian raids. There's even been a theory that the girls accused were suffering from hallucinations and fits due to a fungus which was common in cereal crops at the time.
