Tony Timpa, who was white and died in similar circumstances to Floyd's earlier in 2016, never received the attention that Floyd's death drew. In fact his death at the hands of Dallas police officers only really came to people's attention latterly because of the Floyd case. Nor did his family receive the compensation or justice that the Floyd family received. Ryan Mills, writing in the National Review noted that, "There was no national uproar after Timpa's death. No national cries for justice and reform. The city of Dallas paid no settlement to Timpa's family." - Wiki

@DeathRayGraphics Er no, but I do know of someone who more likely is. I'm saying that the way in which both men died at the hands of the police was clearly wrong and that one man's death was dealt with with the full weight of the US law whilst the other's wasn't and that the colour of one man's skin played a major part in that decision and was utterly irrelevant in another. What's telling here is how you along with many others, much of your media and your politicians are obviously very keen to racialise the nature of Floyd's death and yet this was never a line pursued by the prosecution of Chauvin at trial, only ever hinted at. 'Black' Floyd's death at the hands of the mixed race police was wrong and so was the mentally troubled 'white' Tempah's, both horrific, but in your and much of the world's hierarchy of importance, I suspect, one is far more worthy of scrutiny than the other.

@DeathRayGraphics No, I'm not saying that it's just that I refuse to see this simplistic obsession to view literally everything through the prism of 'race' if you're a POC all the time as particularly helpful or, indeed, empowering. I may yet be proved horribly wrong but I somehow doubt the shameful inaction of police officers at Uvalde had anything whatsoever to do with the ethnicity of those poor kids or LEOs involved and everything to do with the latters' fear and incompetence. Similarly, the outrageous claims made by Infowars' Alex Jones relating to the Sandy Hook shooting can't be put into any kind of 'racism' box because of the skin colours of those involved. It doesn't make them any less abhorrent though. The two other policemen in attendance the day that Floyd was killed by the white Chauvin were both of minority origin and it's worthy of note that the prosecution didn't actively seek to use race as an aggravating factor. That horrific method of restraint used by those officers that day wasn't unique to that occasion, to black people or to Mr Floyd. Police violence is inexcusable whomsoever it is directed against and racism is equally so and must be addressed whenever it genuinely occurs, but I refuse to let those who see it literally everywhere and in everything deliberately seek to sow hatred and division, be they black, white or anything else, win. There's plenty of police brutality directed at white and Hispanic people in America if you care to look at the official figures although I accept that it is disproportionately likely to be directed at black people and that skin colour undeniably plays a part in that, but there are also many other factors at play, not least socioeconomic ones. Police violence against white people is just that, police violence, but against black people it's almost always automatically assumed to be purely racially motivated it seems.

@DeathRayGraphics I'm not excusing it. I'm simply saying that it should be seen and taken for what it is when it is. Those, like you, who assume that 'race' must be at the heart of ANY police abuse inflicted on ANY POC are guilty of exactly the same blinkered thinking that you accuse me of. Timpa's killing was a crime. A crime perpetrated by LEOs. Pure and simple. It should be seen for what it was. It wasn't. Was it 'racist' because it wasn't? No, because the LEOs who perpetrated had the same colour skin as he did. Once you start defining people, their infinitely complex lives and their myriad of actions purely by the colour of their skins then, I'm afraid, you're the one who is being played here not me.

@DeathRayGraphics I know you about as well as you know me so let's not play that game. Rights, either yours or mine, have got nothing to do with this. I'm not pretending that racism doesn't exist, I'm not pretending that police brutality doesn't exist and I'm not pretending that black people statistically, particularly in the US, aren't more likely to be on the end of it than white people. If I'm mad at all the people I'm mad at are those who perpetrate injustice, particularly those who do it falsely under the guise of representing it, but I'm also not going to broad brush condemn ALL those who put their lives on the line everyday trying to uphold it for the greater good as you seem to. You seem like you're a 'let's burn down the granary' type of guy 'Ray' as if somehow this will solve all your problems. It won't. Reducing all your ills to the colour of someone's skin might be a neat, powerful and appealing narrative in some quarters, but it'll only get you so far and will only serve to further entrench some opposing views in the process, so good luck with that.
