The human brain is a massively parallel machine computing many thoughts and emotions at the same time. The only difference between mental disorder and normality is that those 90% of parallel processes are hidden from the conscious mind, somehow start to leak into it. So in fact all humans have voices in their heads, except in a normal person the conscious mind is not allowed to hear them. Never forget that the voices are in fact a healthy and normal functioning of the brain, what is not normal however is that the conscious mind having access to them. So to all people with mental disorders, you are not as different as you thought you were and don't treat those voices as unhealthy, they are just the raw normal operation of the mind meaning you are alive and operating as you were meant to be. It's just that your conscious mind was not supposed to easedrop on them because they are raw, not finalized yet and therefore have excessive emotional energy to pursue their path through the brain paths to combine and balance with many others like them and form normal finalized thoughts to the conscious mind. Remember every human has these voices physically running in their heads, just not through the conscious mind. Take comfort in that those voices no matter how unpleasant and scary are in fact healthy and normal in their existence, and being aware of them is the only thing that separates you from a more healthy mind. It is the same as not being able to feel your stomach digesting food or your guts pushing the food through your intestines but you know these activities are happening useful and healthy. The voices are useful and healthy too, so forgive them for leaking to your conscious mind, and ask them kindly to remain at the subconscious level since really having conscious awareness of them does not serve a useful purpose and brings confusion and emotional trouble/distress because the conscious mind wants to treat them as fully finalized thoughts which they really aren't. Hopefully they will trouble you less now that you know they are present in all humans and that their existence is normal but that hierarchically they are many levels below and although they have energy, that energy was not meant to surface but to help them continue their journey into the brain to associate/combine/oppose/add/cancel with others through internal feedback paths to form more balanced and rational thoughts and ideas that are released to the conscious mind.
Sleep is in fact a time when the conscious mind is switched off so that all these voices can freely balance themselves for a new day, and before waking up they return to the subconscious. Dreaming is the last part of sleep when these voices are moving back to subconscious but the conscious mind is switched back on progressively catching some of them and creating hallucination which is really what dream sleeping is. Yet nobody would call dreaming, hallucinating but it is.
