  1.  @Mandelabxng  I don't think Duran had found Hagler's weakness until the 12th round, that is getting under his high guard and uppercut Hagler's tendency to come inside with head down. THat's how Duran cut open Hagler's right eye. Hagler had a panic response and swarmed Duran to not let him capitalize on that finding and that worked for Hagler. Again on the 14 round uppercut cut the left eye. But it was too late in the fight, Hagler owes his victory to being a many tricks poney, making it hard for the opponent to 'learn' him. But that cannot work forever and i am sure in a rematch once Duran would instinctively remember that weakness and exploit it much earlier in the fight and then would not let go of it and Hagler would not find a response with trying to confuse Duran going southpaw back and forth because Duran would still be fresh and dangerous.

  4. Duran needed to do a lot more uppercuts. Hagler comes inside head down with his gloves high up. Hagler has high shoulders and very high guard the uppercut should hurt him when he comes reaming in. Duran need to get under his guard and uppercut guard with bobs like Tyson style and then hard uppercut. That's how to beat hagler . EDIT: round 12 duran uppercut and cuts hagler's right eye. Damn right (i wrote comment around round 10) and round 14 cuts hagler right eye too also uppercut. At the End haggler gets the jury decision with both of his eyes cut but if Duran learned from that fight he could easily beat Haggler next time by including bobbing + uppercuts with his own guard high up Tyson style. That's because of the high center of gravity of haggler, long legs, short abdomen high shoulder and tends to come inside head down. It's very obvious in the last round were Haggler was wide open for uppercuts inside but Duran never tries to hit from under.

  5. Duran had a formidable versability of techniques and defense alertness but maybe his only weakness was to not find the strategical weakness of the opponent. Here i commented on the 10th round that Duran needed to bob and weave and keep a high guard and uppercut based on hagler tendency to come inisde head down with high gloves with his shoulder higher than duran. Ironically i was proven right when duran uppercut him round 12 and cut his right eye and round 14 uppercut left and cut his right eye. I think Hagler instinctively sensed that Duran had found a weakness in his strategy and fought the two last round in a frenzied drum roll trying to avoid Duran realizing he had found the entry to Hagler's castle system of boxing. I wished they fought again Duran would win if he could capitalize on that. Haggler was the exact boxer that you need Tyson bobbing and weaving, high guard and uppercut to beat.

  6. Sorry but i have a hard time including Leonard in that list, i agree with all 3 others I don't think Leonard punches hurt he was a tag count jury winner like mayweather in more recent time. That's not boxing it's playing tag and running. But the other 3 where hitting hard. There's a kind of deceit to be fast enough to tag the opponent face in a very visual way for the judges yet causing very minimal impact. Notice the boxers who do this are never toe to toe fighters they're rabbit scared and dancing. When Leonard tried to prove something going toe to toe against Duran he got destroyed.

First of all Duran was well known for his incredible defense, waving away from punches with incredible ease precision, including the nasty combos meant to trick and deceive. Second if you don't see Duran's boxing is at the core of talent and a boxer's boxer ( Leonard admired him before and after fighting him) then i cannot help you. As for hearns i want you to take the 1981 Hearns Leonard fight video pause it with a good view of hearn, then do the same for the 1984 Hearns who knocked Duran cold. Totally different man. In 1981 he had spaghetti legs, no muscles there at all, you'd think he could stumble and fall easily. In 1984 had developped big muscles and was ripped all over. Took much deeper stance and was a much better boxer. On the second Hearns leonard fight, the shy ackward Hearns had become friendly and dominated by leonard's extrovert personality outside the ring and fought him like a an older brother without his usual hit man attitude and knocked him down twice and only got a draw. Hearns was too soft on leonard, had none of his mischievous murderous mentality. You seem to be among those who don't recognize that the highest talent in boxing is what Duran did, the perfect technique and he never did the same thing twice in a fight, he was totally unpredictable and his ability to read the opponent was stunning at every second even in later rounds. Leonard was a nervous boxer with self confidence issues and a cockey kid even at 30. His evasive boxing style was not top tier boxing but to be hair he had a great hook on both hands and that's about it. I don't see his dancing as positive, more of an excuse to not box. This school of non combative boxing was taken to the extreme by mayweather junior who approached boxing like a tag game and if focused on controlling the Judges impression, not on being the best boxer. He should have been expelled from boxing and the non-combative boxer penalty points rules should have been added to the rules.

  9.  @marioarguello6989  Well said, i have zero respect for leonard (sugar ray leonard) and deep inside he didn't like his own rabbit boxing style. He secretely worshipped Duran. All the weasel boxers like Leonard or Mayweather were buffoon who use non combative tactics to control fights, it's not boxing and does not deserve credit. Boxing rules ought to be updated to penalize a boxer who is non combative for each round where he is escaping/side stepping for more than 2 minutes out of 3 minutes.

I think non-combative boxer is the better expression rather than silly harmless jabs (which is also correct and meant for the judges as show while being completely ineffective in harming the opponent). I also propose a different approach to changing boxing rule to expose non combative boxers. If a boxer retreats for more than 60% of a round, he forfeits that round. Period. This would force boxers to box, not rabbit run. But because such rule does not exist even worse non combative boxers have appeared ruining the sport with a lack of show and where it's all about stealing the win by suppressing the confrontation and making silly harmless flashy pokes. The worst boxer ever in my view is mayweather doing this exclusively. That is not boxing it's running and denying so much of the fight that rounds are won or lost only over one or two tapping pokes. From his own dirty mouth, mayweather hated boxing, he could not box, all he did is what i explained. Real boxers love boxing and it shows in the beauty of their fights. Such as the japanese inoue anyway or Pacquiao. Leonard hated his own boxing and secretely worshipped real boxing as in Duran. Of course Hagler beat Leonard. It's the rules that are wrong.
