It is a fact that thousands years of Chinese generations have deforested every bit of the east Asian continent. Since times immemorial Chinese would cut twigs, trees and everything that has thick wood for fire to cook and heat. Multiply this by their massive population and desertification is their creation. Glad to see they've realized it since the 1980's and have an active "great green wall" program. I saw it from train travelling the region and it was one of the greatest thing i saw, as you could tell there are hundred of kilometers with human planted trees. You even wonder how it is possible to plant that many trees. But building an ecosystem is more than just planting trees and it seems they're understanding that and involved the locals and botanists. China never advertised that problem, it's the first time i see it although i knew from my own deduction that the way chinese population lived was destroying forests and causing soil erosion. Already in the early 1900 their rivers flooded precisely because all the vegetation near rivers has been cut and removed by hundred of past generations of Chinese.
