That's a human mistake misinterpreting all animals. Most animal when being close will look like their mind is completely away and not observing you. But in fact you're the #1 center of their attention. They do not have to make eye contact or look in your direction but they're attentive to your every movements. It goes for many animals : deers, bears, house cats.

Yep, impressive. Especially she predicted his escape run very accurately.

If the leopard was a loner lion trying to get accepted in this pride, it would act submissive exactly like the leopard. The fact that the lions recognize that behavior, shuts off their hunting instinct and instead they get into a debate. What should we do with him, do we need one more pride member ?

the same way as it got surprised by a hyena in another video. Relaxing and taking a nap. The human built road is responsible for high animal traffic and encounters.

@hazardeur The road proximity increases animal traffic and odd encounters. The same leopard already got surprised by a Hyena while it was relaxing down on the ground but then stood his ground and ask the hyena to leave.

Very good observation ! amazing you are absolutely right. He corrected his attention in a fraction of a second and the male lion was definitely about to do something if he didn't.

Yes let them choose the most tender parts first.

No i think they knew it was not worth the aggravation, the leopard made sure to advertise that he was a big cat too with all the arsenal and the lions know from quarreling with siblings that four clawed paws and big bite are no joke. The only reason they'd want to kill it is competition if prey is scarce. Looks like they were well fed, and they surely recognized that the leopard was a familiar cousin of themselves. As long as they were not irritated of feeling challenged the balance of rewards vs pain was in favor of the leopard not getting harmed. Smart cats all of them.

not quite look again, the male lion was still looking at him, and so he bomb dived his head directly to the ground. Perfect reaction that saved his life. Not another sleeping position.

1. Relatively easy prey must be plenty 2. their stomach still full of their last meal. 3. Leopard playing the perfect act to avoid irritating the lion.

The pride felt proud of the leopard presence in their midst. They tried to appease and be accepting. Two of them lay flat on the ground, they're basically welcoming their guest prisonner. When he runs away they look disappointed. I think they knew the value of the leopard as a superb big cat.

you're wrong about that, lions are chasers and runners, the leopard is an ambush hunter. Although the lions cannot climb trees, there aren't that many trees in the savana and high grass offers no protection if lions are after you.

.. and 4 legged paws ready to pedal into your belly.
