  1. The thing that makes his immortality work in the original movie is that it's almost more like a slash movie. It's not that you're worried about what will happen to him, you're eager to see what he'll do to the bad guys. In the original movie the bad guys were despicable, they were scum, they were over-the-top villains that you couldn't wait to see get taken out and that was also part of the fun. In addition, that action scenes were done well, things were suitably atmospheric and gritty and you really felt like that main character earned his revenge because of what happened to him. It's not a complicated formula, so dropping the ball here really seems like they just didn't have the talent or direction necessary to make this work.

  3. I almost wanna believe that this is intentional. That Zack is making this as bad as possible to bring about the fall of mainstream cinema even faster... but they I remember it's Netflix and Zack Snyder and there's just no way there's enough self-awareness going on for that to be the case.

  5. I follow a lot of this and agree with pretty much all of it, the only thing I'm confused by is when he says "masculine morals"... I figured morals, especially good morals were just that... "morals", which yeah this industry can't have it's clear good and bad, it all has to be muddy shades of grey with little to no nuance to back it up. You have a group of people that want to subvert tropes without fully understanding that those are the basic tools for story telling, that don't care about profits because they've built a system in which they never take financial risks enough to care, and have ousted anyone that doesn't agree with them, which just so happens to be everyone with any talent. The second competition really shows up someplace else, this whole ship is sunk.

  6. Things went too far, people took cheap profits early on and didn't have any foresight, now the ENTIRE industry has to change before anything can get better. There's no amount of tidying the house that can fix this, it's time to knock down the walls, tear up the carpets and start over and unfortunately, you have to do that for every house on the block now because you built all of it wrong and now no-one wants to move in.

  7. The thing is, this isn't even new. The idea of rebellion against established institutions is the ongoing drive of the next generation from the last. Their parents rebelled too, their grandparents in some cases as well. The people that come next ALWAYS think they figured something out that the ones that came before them didn't, and most of the time, they grow out of that as the mature and gain experience, which is what wisdom is. Unfortunately, more and more that development has be stunted, sometimes stopped dead. A bunch of immature adults that behave like teenagers, always looking for a cause, always wanting to be part of change and always the most easily manipulated because regardless of their rebellion against authority, they crave it so they don't have to think too hard about things, so they can have the pride of being part of a movement without the responsibility of whatever changes come from it. It is the fault of some very irresponsible adults today, that have removed all sense of accountability and self-reliance from the young people today, all for some very short-term gains that they won't have to deal with the ramifications of after they're long gone. I really hope some kick in the head happens before these adult children are the only people in a position of authority without anyone else to look up to and direct them, which is all they know. This isn't sustainable and it's not going unnoticed anymore.

  11. This clearly isn't about making money. It would be obvious to anyone that's not what these productions are doing. It's about the message, and they some of them are deluded enough to think they'll have made a significant impact bringing these giants down. Well, what they want to come from that won't happen. Other people will just come to meet the demand that obviously there and make a killing just making the things people want to spend their money to go see. If all your activism and ideals can do is bring something down, then all you're going to have is a pile of ashes and nothing else to show for it. Someone else will come along and give the general audience what they want. We're to the point of just having to wait this out. These people are going to destroy it all and have nothing and the majority is going to have some one else come in and fill in that void and hopefully learn from the mistakes of the titans that toppled before them. It's entirely unsustainable and doomed to fail. People just aren't excepting that ultimately, if they're even remembered at all, they'll be remembered as foolish for committing to this.

  12. They need to get the clue, there's a few properties people will just NOT give up. Tolkien's work is untouchable, you can make as much crap around it as you want, but at the end of the day, no-one wants or will accept it. It was pushed back when it was the most expensive show ever made and it's going to be pushed back again as a crappy anime adaptation.

  13. Of course people to whom the concept of "self-respect" is entirely foreign, don't seem to understand the issue with making their characters into clowns and think that being willing to do so is something to take pride in, and consider people that take offense to it to be the "problem".
