@penelopebunce The discrepancy of what career that men and women choose isn't the result of targeted ads, but rather due to biological differences and a natural culture that has placed women and men in certain boxes based on what works and based on one's capabilities.These ads are in place because it's effective to target people based on their interests. Removing ads won't change a thing in society. Not to the better. Not with a noticeable effect.

ROFLCOPTER "patriarchy", lol. If such a structure existed, if it per definition was bad, it'd have changed long ago (the actual term's meaning prescribes ideas that aren't present in the Western world today, so why bring that up). What exactly are you complaining about again?

@headishome8452 Every site collects data and adjusts their advertisement/supply accordingly for its customers. Especially YouTube, the site that you personally use while being critical of "data harvesting". If that was a huge issue, people would stop using these platforms and our governments would probably step in. That hasn't happened, because the "issue" is severely overblown. How does the "patriarchy" exist and what are your concrete objections to that?

@penelopebunce What precisely needs to be changed? People's free will and current interests? Should we steer them in a different direction without any real convincing reason? I don't see why we would do that. Advertisers are certainly not going to waste money on doing it at least, just because some people disagree that our social values "aren't sound".

@noname-zp1yh The majority of people aren't interested in doing anything to stop this though. They're still active on these platforms, happily. No objections. Why? Since in the end, nobody are concretely affected by data harvesting by a capitalist Western company.
