  1. The capitalist route that China has taken has resulted in lifting millions from poverty. The standards of living under Mao and strict communism during the 20th century meant that Chinese citizens had to suffer greatly under horribly low standards of living. So it's easy to understand why many are supportive of the government that has been behind this. Well, it's not like the citizens has any other choice, but still.

  2.  @hankxu3457  China's policy of "socialism with Chinese characteristics" is basically state capitalism where a vibrant private market is encouraged. The type of policy that sort of exists in the West. So nobody should be under the illusion that communism had anything to do with this. China has renounced and abandoned communism, at least economically, long ago, because it failed.

  3. Assimilation policies and reeducation can be needed to make sure that every societal demographic adopts the right values. Systematic slave labor isn't occurring as far as I know, at least not directed against innocent people.
