  1. If nobody, not even the government, can protect you, self-defense is apt. Letting lawless militias steamroll you and your entire community isn't acceptable to any person looking to survive and live in peace.

  2. @Position King They supported democracy without jihadist violence and fundamentalism. Something that any country looking to be civilized should stand behind. But perhaps USA underestimated the engrained support for these hostile ideologies and religious doctrines, which caused a prolonged mess.
