@Zathren I agree with the conservative approach of getting involved in social issues, 100%. But the initial poster claimed that conservatism has to do with individual rights and freedom, which a conservative stance on social issues per definition rejects. Most of anti-state and pro-freedom "conservatives" are for the most part liberals with a slight nationalist or conservative leaning, at most, unless they advocate for broad state involvement.

@naguirre7895 The government should absolutely be involved in all of those issues to ensure a peaceful and secure society for healthy citizens willing to build and contribute. But the average "conservative" these days would probably say no, because they've adopted the liberal stance on the matter for various, often questionable, reasons.

A conservative today basically means either of the following: A liberal nationalist. An individualist libertarian. An ideology that gets nothing done, preserves nothing, a let-go attitude, and that inevitably will hand over power to leftist authoritarians. We need more conservative authoritarians in this country.
