  1. Or because the subject is quite complex and gets advanced rapidly at an early age. It isn't rewarding enough either. A lot of people simply find other subjects more interesting.

  2. Mathematics is simply not interesting. You barely use maths other than basic methods that you learn in no time at an early stage. Most math courses consists of very advanced level academia that you have to study hard to get through, and most people will forget the teachings closely afterwards and never use it again. You don't get particularly rewarded in the subject, unless you're a specific type of person captivated by calculating random figures. I guess it's lucky that there's some of those people out there.
