  1. North Korea has stayed quiet and reclusive for the past couple of months. Haven't heard much from them. So I can see why the mutual military drills and cooperation between SK-US can be toned down.

  2. Some regions requires strong militaries due to all the threats that exists. It's difficult to obtain such a force and maintain it without general conscription. It teaches discipline and strength as well, which are some beneficial values to a country. That said, I'm not sure how I stand on conscription in countries where you don't really have to prepare for war.
