Oh look, NY will experience more crime, homelessness, unhygienic elements on the streets, and health issues. What a typical piece of legislation by democrats. I'm sure they'll regret their decision in due time.

@krin8831 Gangs will continue competing on the legal market, go to another illegal market (extortion, smuggling, trafficking), and likely uphold their presence. That happened in Canada after legalization and will happen again. Even if the gangs disappears (should disappear by state intervention either way, not by decriminalizing/legalizing drugs), this policy has way too many downsides to make justifiable.

"Let's exacerbate a crisis in a crisis, because why the heck not!" Such a stupid policy proposal. What's sad is that even republicans has thrown away their morals and emulated this type of policy in parts of the country. Normalizing drugs is the last thing we need.

@Joseph Stalin Correct. Legalizing and normalizing alcohol was a big mistake. Alcohol should be prohibited entirely as well. But one drug being legal doesn't excuse the legalization of currently illegal drugs. That logic doesn't work.

Infinite Flow I've read a lot about this topic and discussed it for hundreds of hours, which has formed my decisive view on it. Caffeine is obviously not as dangerous to the user as the more heavy drugs. But yes, caffeine and especially products consisting of a bunch of sugar, should be discouraged and deterred to prevent obesity and other shortcomings. But the highest priority should be to prohibit the more known and risky drugs.

@glennvaz3127 Drugs prescribed by doctors from the pharma industry are used to rehabilitate sick patients and improve their situation during temporarily antidotes. There's a massive difference between medicinal assistance and recreational drug use. The latter has many risks to a person health, well-being and physical/mental state, and should obviously be prohibited entirely. I've never seen a persuasive argument against that position.
