@dirremoire “Brits do this a lot” Absolute nonsense. As absurd as suggesting that all French people are rude and arrogant or all Americans fetishise guns. Grow up and offer stalwart, rigorous well thought out arguments or, quite frankly, don’t bother commenting at all and leave.

@aaronsomerville2124 Yes, example: the USA.

@aaronsomerville2124 It was a loose reference to Secession.

Haha! I’m a guitarist too and thought the very same thing! 🤣

The “Public Schools” in the United Kingdom are private enterprises. Government run schools are known as “State Schools”.

If only ! 😊 well said my friend 👍🏻🙏🏻

@ilovespongebob7840 Obviously

“…why they never Stalin your arguments….” ?! 🙂👍🏻

This madness… it all seems to be coming out of the USA. I think that country should be quarantined. I honestly cannot do anything online or go anywhere online without being drowned in US “culture”. I even asked my internet provider if there was a way I could block anything and everything American from my experience of being online… of using the internet… but unfortunately they insist it cannot be done.

The problem of mixed up misunderstood terms is precisely what TIK is referring to. “Public” School - a Privately owned business open to the public. “Public” Baths - Swimming pools owned by local government open to the public. No wonder folk are so easily confused! 😊

The East India Company. Essentially an import/export business. Became so huge an operation it created its own armies and ruled entire countries (back when India had not yet unified and consisted of separate nations).

Oh and most definitely shot very many people indeed.

@bigleady I’ve already said they created their own army. They weren’t under protection of the Empire, that’s precisely why they had to create their own army. The East India Company actually went to war with Indian nations, the company was so large and had control of finances so large it was acting as though it was itself a country. Eventually the Company became so large, so corrupt and out of control the British state had to take over and introduce regulations. It didn’t just suddenly become ‘no more’ at all, it ended up being a massive contribution to the largest empire that has ever existed on this planet and the jewel of its crown was India. Respectfully - I simply have to say - it really seems as though you are just inventing a narrative of pure fiction as you go along because the contents of your comment were utterly wrong and completely untrue.

“There is no such thing as society” - M. Thatcher.

@Biggiiful Precisely. Very well said 👍🏻🙏🏻

Yes, and confusingly, in the UK at least, “Public Baths” (swimming pools) are owned by the State (that’s State with a small “s” - local government) But are still referred to as “Public” because, simply, they exist for members of the public to use (as opposed to only members of a private club). Aye, it’s no wonder 99% of people get “Public” and “Private” interchangeably mixed up.

And yet in the US most people refer to everything from a village to something the size of modern day Tokyo as a “City” 🤷🏻♂️ Bonkers….

@drscopeify I really don’t think Sweden is on a precipice of becoming a Totalitarian society.

Good grief - SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SO THICK ! ! ! Tik IS absolutely correct! The number of people disagreeing and berating Tik who are… ill-informed, mistaken, mis-understanding, arrogant, rude, plain nasty AND YES - DOWNRIGHT FUCKING STUPID TOO is SHOCKING !!!!

His “Animal Farm” is hugely relevant too.

Needs to be used in America more than anywhere else. Mind you - actually they would probably ban it and the compilers of the dictionary hunted down and shot by some severely mentally ill man who despite his illness found he could easily buy a gun in a shop without any reasonable checks done on him because of US insane gun laws.
1
I would much rather move to and live in Deutschland than move to and live in the United States. Just a personal opinion…

And it’s a beautiful place with a population that is among the most happiest and contented in the entire world! Wonderful! I wish I could live there!
1
“Public” School - a privately owned business open to the public for tutoring kids. Paid for by their parents. “Public” Baths - swimming pool owned by Local Government open for use by the public. Paid for by taxing people. Yeah, it’s no wonder people get “public/private” mixed up!
1
OMG that’s the last thing I’d want him to do! Some yank who disagrees with TIK could so easily find him and shoot him dead! Remember John Lennon? Where a severely mentally ill man went in a store and EASILY bought a hand gun and ammo with no checks done on him due to insane US gun laws? No way!
1
@ArgentWolf95 Yes very well said. I’m at my giddy limit, the end of my tether with all these people arguing and denying solid rigorous logical factual correct definitions. Good grief!!! SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SO THICK ! ! ! Tik IS absolutely correct! The number of people disagreeing and berating Tik who are… ill-informed, mistaken, mis-understanding, arrogant, rude, plain nasty AND YES - DOWNRIGHT FUCKING STUPID TOO is UTTERLY SHOCKING !!!! 😮😢

Whoosh !

In the USA it seems everyone refers to any sized place as a “City”. I’ve personally witnessed Americans on holiday in the UK describe a very small coastal town in north east England as a “City”.
