Still no Ian Paice?

@crusheverything4449 Alanis Morriset and Sting over Gillan??? Does not make sense to me. I am not keen on Joe Cocker but I would not have complained if he was on there, Farmer from Grand Funk? Stevie Wonder? Look at range of stuff Gillan sang in one year. Jesus Christ superstar, concerto for group and orchestra and Early in Rock material. Range? Top A-B. Any others can do that?

@Max BXB Damn I always wanted to be a drummer in a band. These days I would like to get into jazz but not many bands out there. Buddy Rich were me heros

@carl.b8775 Still alive
3
@roelkuiper9919 Never before is not that easy to play. Great track.
3
@richardjhgraham I love Sabbath btw and being a drummer obviously appreciate Bill Ward. Just so you know
3
Gillan could sing anything and I mean anything and no one could touch him at his peak. Macca a similar singer, beautiful but power and range like a ICBM
2
@crusheverything4449 my comments were against the video not you. Dio was great agreed. Gillan's light burned brighter but shorter yes.
2
Blackmore!!!!!
2
Jan Akerman from focus just because of his choice of notes, crazy runs but beautiful tone too. The stuff from Focus 3 is amazing.
2
@nabooster No
2
His drummer can't play Paice
2
Kate Bush is an insane genius
2
@robo9466 I forgot Toto! Great intro
2
@jaylozier4083 I would like to come back as a pro drummer in the next life
2
@lukero5502 I'm jamming FWB tonight, I think I have finally worked out the verse with the triplet thing on his ride and snare. It's not that easy!
2
@sunlion8866 Yes!! Timing it was tricky, a great drummer!
2
@DenniWintyr I can believe it, the 1960s studios were busy and newer bands had to be able to play well as they had limited recording time.
2
@carl.b8775 I had to check on Google. He had a heart attack a couple years ago!

Eleanor Rigby

Buddy Rich was the greatest drummer of all time and died in 1987. That aside I agree the film was garbage unrealistic nonsense.
1
Just one thing, the falsetto at the end of the chorus. ' when I hear that old song they used to (whoooooooo!) Play.'
1
A nice tribute to a friend. A lovely voice too.
1
Yep, mainly cr4p.
1
@lucaspontes4147 Whole video yes.
1
@crusheverything4449 No need to apologize, like I said Dio was great
1
One note, that one note and that for me is Richie Blackmore.
1
Is there a drum one?
1
Ok Rick for me you never do enough Purple BUT that one was brilliant, thanks.
1
Amazing. I think he is Richie Blackmore's favourite player.
1
Just amazing playing. Brilliant.
1
Jan Ackerman plays this type of stuff on lute. Best all round player for guitar
1
Loved this, I can play one or two but not like that!
1
This is great, really great. Thanks
1
Paper back writer is essentially G and C. The layered harmony has a G in it but I'm not sure what chord it ends on as there are 4 parts
1
Very funny. Awful 80s track, can't stand that era
1
The fact is Ian Paice would smoke most of these drummers, very few above him in terms of technique. I like the fact he always puts the Beatles in as musically they were the bar BUT playing, Deep Purple were the bar. I think only 'Smoke' has been mentioned. Back on drums, Burn 1973 Mandrake Root 1969 Fireball 1971 Space trucking 1970 Black night (check out the live recording they did for TOTP).....is there nothing in that there that is better than U2!? He is NOT a technical drummer, neither was moon, Phil Collins or Ringo.
1
Some great tunes in there
1
Nearly at the end, this analysis just gets better and better. I've just been schooled.
1
Drums left handed, guitar right. Badminton right, writing left.
1
No Purple again?
1
7.01 is the 'Day after Tomorrow' theme also, pretty close.
1
9.51 just crazy WG just using his thumb to pick those runs, amazing
1
Good post thanks
1
1978 you guy are a little bit behind
1
Compared to the 1970s the 80s were sh1t
1
This is one to watch twice, brilliant
1
In fact music stayed crap till 1994
1
I hate your best of because they are light on Purple and Focus but I'll see what you have.
1
What was the riff he could not name?
1
Love it.
1
Clicked on straight away. It's the white stripes...so I'll think ill
1
Ok so.... The ultimate piano player. Buddy Rich? Be nice to see you do that.
1
Man the actual sound of the 80s was so naff.
1
9 isn't Denny Lane, he is playing bass on the 76 version, Paul on Piano
1
In my top 3 EJ, great analysis.
1
Beautiful tribute, the sort of guy as a player and human being you want to bump into by the sounds of it.
1
Sorry man.
1
Edit oops I was mad sorry...Rock n Rock is played wrong and no Deep Purple. Rat Race? I don't want to go to Chelsea? Burn? Fireball? You fool no one? You have ToTo, 50 ways, Beatles and Leve breaks which is cool but....
1
@kitko33 I would, Ian Paice for instance. Rush a great band and he is an amazing creative drummer BUT Paice was out on his own. One bass drum standard kit, two floors but that's it.
1
So you are doing this now?
1
'Only living boy in New York' has a great middle section
1
Lots missing but overall really enjoyed it. Thanks
1
Hendrix is an obvious one and someone I take for granted because he part of the guitar furniture. I try and imagine listening to him for the first time in the 60s and getting that WTF! feeling.
1
Is Deep Purple blocked?
1
@DenniWintyr I always thought he was messy, some of the fills go out of time. My mate informed me that they had limited resources and had to do some takes and live with it early albums. I'm in I Sabbath tribute and I am having troubles replicating his stuff! I'm a purple head so I prefer perfection, Bill Ward IS a great drummer though.
1
@richardjhgraham time is time.
1
@richardjhgraham yes...and he went out of it
1
It's a fucking bass drum!!!! BASS DRUM!
1
Man with the child in his eyes - Kate Bush
