  14.  @thamac5418  Science is not run by any one body country or science authority. There are individual colleges, universities that teach and run research programs, I went to one. There are R&D departments in industry I have worked at two. There are government projects There are collaborations of all of the above including projects like the LHC involving 1000s of scientists, PhD projects, private and government sponsorship. So these claims that the life science community have just suddenly decided to abandon their jobs projects vocation and sanity because of some overall power are childish idiotic nonsense. Science works on publication of research which is discussed in conferences, if its wrong its wrong and history has taught us time and time again that a young blood that goes against the grain will be listened to if they are proven right. Covid is a dangerous novel virus causing a pandemic and the vaccines work. Why? Because the published literature is telling us so. Week on week month on month

  17.  @jayal6698  You don't understand PPE. Surgical masks are single use 4-8 hours but you can get washable durable masks as well. There are also options that have been treated with anti microbial chemicals. Masks work in all different kinds of settings.

  20.  @roleat  Being in a vegetative state may be painless but would you prefer that or death? They could keep him alive till his muscles totally wasted, got all sorts of opportunistic infections, antibiotic courses, draining his lungs of fluid and then finally dying. I would like Drs to try and save me if I had a severe head injury but I would not want that. Months or even years of existing nothing more.

  29.  @iandavis1723  So as for ALL other similar infectious diseases (droplet infection) isolation and social distancing is the only thing that can stop it. If you have it, you get ill then recover or die while isolated. The virus needs a host to continue if it has no host or is killed by or kills the host it stops there. Social distancing has been used for 1000s of years in plagues and diseases like leprosy. The vaccine (like all vaccines) prepares the body’s immune system in case it meets the real thing. That has been known for decades. PPE works- also used for decades in health care and other professions. So EVERYTHING you have read about viruses, PPE and vaccines is probably nonsense. If you are interested in the real science and require citations then I will send them.

He advocated anti virals rather than a vaccine, that he was heavily invested in. That is called a conflict of interests. Why pick on a fringe scientists? Just curious. Does 'fringe' automatically mean "correct?"

  35.  @garywilton246  A cat from a dog? Ok. What if your dog gets sick? Everyone has a cursory understanding of things including science and technology. That is the key word though, cursory. Lay people had never heard of mRNA, SARS, MERS, Kary Mullis, a capsid or spike protein. A few weeks into the crisis and everyone knows virology. It does not work like that.
