@aesop8694 Western civilization did not come from one culture or religion, Christianity and the Roman empire that brought it was certainly dominant. From the there we get much of our language, music, art, architecture. Science philosophy and mathematics we get from many cultures including the Greeks, Babylonians, Egyptians, Indians. The UK is great example if you walk round Chester, York, Colchester, Bath. My city gets its name from the Latin for breast! Manchester.

@joeconnelly3161 Islam is still a young religion unlike Christianity. The dark ages as one poster pointed out was a Christian ISIS type period in Europe where culture law and mind set was religion driven. It took centuries to emerge from it with the enlightenment. ALL religions are bad for humanity for one reason, they say, ' I am right you are wrong and god is with me not you.' THAT has been motivation to kill in the past and still today, ALL religions. It keeps people separate, even among the same religion. Look at Sunni Wahabi Shia? Catholic and Protestant?

@joeconnelly3161 Being a Christian makes you right and a Hindu wrong that's whats wrong with it. Thinking you are right just because of the religion you happen to be in removes any sort of reflection, self criticism. I am an atheist, what do you think is going to happen to me?

@joeconnelly3161 We have enough differences to cause conflict, sex, gender, race, colour, class, culture, language. Religion has its say on all of those things and Christianity says following the teachings of Jesus and you will live forever. Everyone who doesn't follow Jesus will be wailing and gnashing teeth. Being of a mindset where you could be wrong and have something to learn about people and the universe, makes one open to others views and ideas. Much more conciliatory, open to change and compromise.
