How convenient that you forgot the massive unemployment of the 1920s, 80% drop in the stock market, bank runs, massive corruption, no social security, no medicare, no medicaid, no glass-steagal, no bank regulations, no regulations of the stock market, no labor laws, etc. Compare that with economy after the 1940s.

  5.  @f.j.c4444  Well if you keep interest rates too high it will slow down the economy. That was exactly the FED's plan. Tell us what happened in 1982 when the FED aggressively starting cutting interest rates after an even higher inflationary period then we have now. We had one of the biggest stock market rallies in history. Same thing happened after 2001. Same thing happened after 2020. Of course in 2020 rates were lowered too much and was partly responsible for the high inflation period that we had in 2021.

  11.  @RickyBobby34  Inflation was very high at the time and the reason we are cutting rates aggressively is too prevent a recession like we had in the early 1980s. You have an IQ of zero it seems! My goodness! The fed is trying to avoid the same issues we had then.

  12.  @f.j.c4444  Your comment makes absolutely no sense. You actually prove my point. Lowering the interest rates actually resulted in the biggest stock market boom in history from 1982 to 2000. We had a recession in 2001 in part caused by 9/11 terrorist attacks and then another growth spurt in the stock market. The crash of 2008 was not caused by the Fed. It was caused by banks lending money to practically anyone and when those parties couldn't pay up it led to the collapse various commercial banks bringing the economy down with it.

  13. PBD can't even read a table. He's looking at the wrong column. Look at the 6-month rate of return after interest rate cuts! Show us the annual returns too...why did you cut off that column?

  15.  @wellyforpm  You mean Trump? He's the one that pressured the Fed to lower interest rates when it was not needed. It was his incompetence in the first place that led to the biggest stock market crash in history in 2020.
