@skydog22 authoritarians. Always has, always will be.

@GnosticAtheist I disagree. Ukraine can definitely do things that are morally wrong. Executing a surrendered soldier is one of those things, because it is a war crime. The people who commit war crimes should be prosecuted regardless of their side. That being said, it really sucks if those other russian soldiers were surrendering for real, because that last guy got them all killed. The last guy popping off did indeed constitute a war crime on the russians side and did indeed terminate all of the surrendering soldiers protections. It really sucks for the guys on the ground or the ones running away. The blame in this incident goes to the guy opening fire. The blame for the incident occurring in the first place goes to Russian leadership. Also, as an aside, I believe only soldiers can commit war crimes. Civilians defending their own homes and not in a military service are exempt, but they are also exempt from the protections.

@LooniJoose war crimes

No Jean, ideally noone should be dying because this war doesnt need to be happening. If you like blood so much go walk through the forests of verdun and see the aftermath of pointless wars. Not a square inch of land in that area isn't an artillery crater.

Could also just be poor fact checking. In this day and age your writers have to be the first to post the story to harvest all that ad revenue. So there tends to be a "post now, correct later" attitude for internet sites.

Well mercenaries are illegal.
4
DJTV russia itself could also surrender, it's doing this to itself after all.

@mpakakas3518 kherson is a ukranian city. If it was russian they wouldn't have needed to invade ukraine in order to get to it.
4
@deltatwoniner96 completely agree. Guys on the ground should not have been killed once security was established. Regardless if their status as protected entities was eliminated because of the guy popping off.
3
@aaroncousins4750 not a left/right thing. Dont buy into hating your neighbor. Besides, the difference between an actual army and mercenaries are pretty stark. A mercenary takes orders from the highest bidder, an army doesnt.
3
@bjarkiengelsson well it's more of an authoritarian playbook. We have them all around the world.

We can still have empathy for the russians. I feel sad for them, I feel anger for them, sacrificing their lives for a lie. Sacrificing their lives so the rich can get richer. In a way they arnt much different than us here in America, except we still have a chance to avoid heading down the putin path.
2
That is semantics. The commissioner calling it treason doesnt suddenly make the action okay, it's still a russian war crime.

EK. I think you are slightly off the mark. The united states DID have draft recruiting and what you said did not occur even though we have the 2nd amendment. What got rid of the draft wasn't the 2nd amendment, it was the 1st amendment. People often like to state that the 2nd amendment is 'for protection against their government' but also forget that government and its military are apart of the same said people. What actually keeps america from going down to crazy land is our commitment to freedom, human rights, and the democratic process, ie: the constitution. So I agree that it is a fine document.

@Brian Waas youd also be sieging your own citiziens.

Western forces going in would be playing to putins message. Hes already saying that americans are there. If america never goes in his people will.have to question something.
1
Hell, on a slightly tangential note, look at what happened when the american public found out about Abu ghraib. They demanded blood from their government.
1
@dqdq4083 so you think russia will suddenly collapse because another country got rid of their russian puppet? Russia sounds weak af Maybe russians should take an internal look at why they somehow are threatened by another country being sovereign.

@Alexander-zt9kz suicide squad

@stefaniew.1516 not everyone did bucha though. Especially not someone who is being sent there now. Now, an interesting question I'd ask is whether their and the rest of Russia citizens complacency with their government is considered at fault for the war. And take note, that if you answer yes, then you are agreeing with one of Osama Bin Ladens reasons for attacking the United States when he said that the american and western civilians are responsible for their inaction against their governments actions around the world.
1
@s.m.1354 my response to every Russian threat is "Then do it, you won't." If russia did any of the things they threaten russia would seize to exist.
1
But what kind of government do you think the morph into.
1
I dont think the people of russia are just as guilty. If we believe that then we also believe one of the justifications for Osama Bin Laden bombing western countries. One of the reasons in his letter to the west was that the people of the rest were just as guilty as their government for any crimes that government committed because the people weren't stopping their government. Bin Laden also stated that the western people could rise up against their government and because they weren't, they were clearly okay with it.
