Also, Ireland technically claimed ownership of a part of the UK until 1999. 3) Technically, Greece, the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Cyprus, and Malta didn't share a land border with a pre-existing EU member when they joined.

Many people in Russia and other former Soviet Republics have mixed lineage and may choose to identify one or another ethnicity based on various different things. There are many such people of mixed decent in Kazakhstan that may choose to identify as Kazakh but then change to identifying as Russian if they move to Russia.

The cost nuclear power is mainly the high capital cost of the plant. For existing plants that capital cost has already been paid and cannot be recovered by closing the plant down ahead of schedule. The existing nuclear plants should've been kept running until the end of their planned lifetime.

Any energy source is going to have downsides and nuclear power has killed less people per kWh produced than any other form energy. Should we quickly close down all hydroelectric dams because a single event (Banqiao dam failure in 1975) killed an enormous amount of people?

  30. I think it's pertinent to add that there's at least one more scandal that wasn't mentioned in this video. The person chosen to replace Vilhelm Junnila as the economy minister is another MP named Wille Rydman. He used to be in the National Coalition Party but left due to pressure after he had been accused of grooming or harassing some underage girls/women. He later joined the (True) Finns Party. After he was named as Junnila's successor an ex-girlfriend of his who apparently has some kind of grudge released some his private messages where he's saying things that can easily prove controversial (such as "Us Nazis don't really these kinds of Jew things.").

After the Winter War, Finland lost some quite valuable land containing almost 1/8th of the population including the then second biggest city. After the Continuation War, Finland only lost some sparsely populated territory in the north.

If no one else cares at all then they presumably don't care to prevent Sweden's entry, especially if they think Turkey has more pressing issues? The geographic position of Sweden (and even more so that of Finland) is good for protecting the Baltic countries who are geographically in a very vulnerable position.

I think that it's actually easy to back off from this bluff (in the current situation) if it even counts as a bluff. A bluff is a threat when there's no intention or capability to carry it out. Here Putin at least claims that he's not threatening Ukraine so it's kind of the opposite of a bluff. You could say that the troop movements are the real message, not words, but because the official position is that it's not a preparation for invasion it's easy to back down without losing face. Also, if he actually invades, then it technically wasn't a bluff since carried out the threat.

In the Great Northern War Denmark-Norway, Poland-Lithuania, and Saxony were on Russia's side and Russia was also initially the aggressor (along with Denmark-Norway and Saxony), not Sweden. During the Napoléonic wars Britain was the enemy of Napoléon and thus on Russia's side when he invaded Russia (and Russia's resumption of trade with Britain was why he decided to invade). In both World Wars many European powers and the US were again on the same side and Russia / Soviet Union. Those were European wars involving various powers including Russia and with other countries on both sides, not some uniquely anti-Russian crusades by the West.

Note that e.g. Greece is actually on a different tectonic plate from most of Eurasia so by a tectonic definition it's less of on the same continent as most of the EU than Georgia and Armenia. "Georgia and Armenia border the Asian part of Russia" No, here you're just mistaken. The conventional border of Europe and Asia in the east-west direction is usually taken to be at the Ural mountains. The Caucasus is to the west of the Urals so they border the European part of Russia.

You can read on the ICJ website about this decision and it says: "[The Court] also concluded that it was not required by the question posed to decide whether international law conferred a positive entitlement upon Kosovo to declare independence ; rather, it had to determine whether a rule of international law prohibited such a declaration." The ICJ hasn't ruled on whether Kosovo has a right to independence or not.

That does not bode well for using the Belarusian army in Ukraine.
