"this video fails to mention the Continuation War (1941-44) which ended with further territorial losses to the Soviet Union" But the territorial losses were far less severe than the losses after the Winter War. After the Winter War, Finland lost some quite valuable land containing almost 1/8th of the population including the then second biggest city. After the Continuation War, Finland only lost some sparsely populated territory in the north.

"leading to the Finnish inventing the Molotiv cocktail" Finns didn't invent the Molotov cocktail. Those had been used against tanks in e.g. the Spanish Civil War which had ended only a few months earlier. Finns did come up with the name, though.

@exlibrisas Maybe Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia should institute conscription. Their combined population is higher than that of Finland (6 million vs. 5.5 million) so a large conscript reserve can have a decent impact on their defensive capability. When it comes to aircraft, I don't think it necessarily makes that much sense for them to have fighter jets (though maybe other types of aircraft can make sense). In the case of a potential invasion the jets would be too close to the frontlines to be safe. It probably makes more sense for them to receive air support from other NATO countries and more focus on infantry, artillery, etc.

Finland doesn't have any F-35s yet. Currently it's only Hornets.

Finland used to also be counted among the Baltic states after its independence.

@POLITICUS-DANICUS You're mistaken. After the WWI the term "Baltic country" was used to refer to the countries on the Baltic Sea which had for the first time acquired independence from the Russian Empire. This included Finland. The term ceased to be applied to Finland after it joined the Nordic Council.

@POLITICUS-DANICUS It is true.

@POLITICUS-DANICUS It is. Just claiming otherwise doesn't burst any "bubbles".

@POLITICUS-DANICUS The whole term "Baltic country" is mostly an informal rather than some kind of official categorization by some international organization and the meaning has varied over time. Currently there is the so called "Baltic Assembly" which is kind of official but it has only existed since 1990. Prior to the 1900s the term was used of various countries that have shoreline on the Baltic Sea, including e.g. Sweden and Denmark. After WWI it was used of those countries on the Baltic Sea that had recently gained independence from the Russian Empire, i.e. Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania (not sure about Poland). After Finland joined the Nordic Council after WWII the term stopped being applied to it. All of this is mostly informal usage which has shifted over time. If you want to be a pedant you could say that any country with Baltic shoreline is a Baltic country. Or you could say that only countries speaking a Baltic language are Baltic which would exclude Estonia.

@POLITICUS-DANICUS You're similarly just repeating your claim that it wasn't. In fact, it was after WWI but not anymore.

@Lithuanian_NAFO_lad OK, I think at least Latvia doesn't have conscription but based on googling they're planning to reintroduce it.

Communist China invaded Vietnam in 1979.
