@WuzZAZzuW "I dont agree. It was the right decision." It was definitely a bad decision. I don't see any reasonable reason to close existing plants before the end of their usable life.

@WuzZAZzuW I don't think that's what you said. It's not that the decision was too quick but rather such decision should not have been made at all. Of course, once plants reach the end of their useful life they will be decommissioned but that doesn't require any separate decision by politicians to end nuclear energy at some point. There is no good reason to make such a decision. Closing too old plants doesn't require such decision at any speed.

@lordanonimmo7699 "The natural gas is mostly used as heating [...] things that Nuclear energy cant really help a lot." Nuclear energy can definitely help a lot with heating, either through electric forms of heating or more directly through district heating.
2
@statostheman "I bet it will end the EU membership for the Swedes." Lol, Sweden will almost certainly not leave the EU. I would be willing to bet on that.

"I can't see reducing or stopping gas flow from Russia completely, as helping Ukraine." It can help Ukraine because less income would mean that the Russian government would have a harder time prosecuting the war. Something like half of the Russian federal budget comes from the export of hydrocarbons.

"The recent decline in wheat prices" Have wheat prices declined? I thought they had gone up.
1
Such a comparison to the last year is misleading as this time Russia might switch off the gas which didn't happen the last time.
1
In the short term coal is going to be used more leading to increased emissions.
1
@GwainSagaFanChannel Yeah, but the usage is going to at least temporarily be even higher than before.
1
@lordanonimmo7699 The more north you go the less gas is used. North of the Baltic Sea gas isn't used very much for heating so I think you're mistaken.
1
@Theorimlig "It does cause air pollution, but not inside the house." You're kind of mistaken here. It pollutes the surrounding air which is where you get the indoors air from as houses aren't sealed. (Of course, fumes aren't vented directly in the indoors air but it's not like any heating method has done that for centuries so it's a rather irrelevant point.)

@supposedlysavvy When it comes to oil it makes sense to blame the consumers of it. Many of us still need it though many could also cut down on its use. It doesn't make sense to consider those countries that just happen to have oil deposits to be environmentally worse.
1
The US has a much stronger federal government.

"In my book, this is not "politely asking", this is "yelling in my face"." But that's different because that's just market logic. It's not like politicians have considered different price levels and decided on the current one.

Solar isn't that good of an option in this case because it's less effective during the winter when gas consumption is higher. Wind might be better but I don't think getting a huge increase in capacity for this year's winter would be feasible.
1
Solar is a bad option for the winter. You need something else.
