9:20 In the case of the Great Northern War, Napoléon's invasion, and the World Wars the position ascribed to Russia doesn't make sense (if they actually hold it). In the Great Northern War Denmark-Norway, Poland-Lithuania, and Saxony were on Russia's side and Russia was also initially the aggressor (along with Denmark-Norway and Saxony), not Sweden. During the Napoléonic wars Britain was the enemy of Napoléon and thus on Russia's side when he invaded Russia (and Russia's resumption of trade with Britain was why he decided to invade). In both World Wars many European powers and the US were again on the same side and Russia / Soviet Union. Those were European wars involving various powers including Russia and with other countries on both sides, not some uniquely anti-Russian crusades by the West.

@MssIAMNOBODYSPECIAL It's quite possible that at least part of it is what he genuinely thinks.

@orionlt1028 "what winter what 500 years?" He was talking about the winter of 1708/09. "Battle of Poltava where swedish empire was crushed was in July" That battle indeed happened in the July of 1709 but that's not really relevant to what OP (mightymagnus) said since Charles XII had turned south before that during the preceding winter.

@orionlt1028 What do you mean excuses? Many soldiers died of exposure. Are you saying that the frozen corpses were just making excuses to not march or what?
2
@orionlt1028 "enemies had warm summer weather?" Obviously not during the winter. Wasn't that clear to you or why are you asking?
2
@orionlt1028 That didn't stop that particular winter from being a major hindrance for their war efforts.

@orionlt1028 Of course they are the same for both sides. I never said they're different.

@ozzyphil74 "Sweden was the aggressor. They manufactured a pretext to attack Russia including using a false flag attack." What false flag attack are you talking about? E.g. Russian troops besieging Narva in 1700 was clearly not a false flag attack. "Secondly, while Russia and Britain were nominally allies against France in the Napoleonic wars, this was more of a loose situation." But still Britain being the enemy of Napoléon, who invaded Russia, speaks of it not being some kind of uniform anti-Russia sentiment in (West) Europe. Moreover, Napoléon and Russian had been friendly before. The reason Napoléon invaded was that Russia had left the anti-Britain blockade and resumed trade. Thus the war was at least just as much about Napoléon's anti-Britain sentiment.

@philipuwumarogie9796 I was talking about 4 of the 5 invasions mentioned in this video. There were 3 wars between Sweden and Russia in the 18th century but I'm pretty sure this video was talking about the first one of them, i.e. the Great Northern War which began in 1700.

@philipuwumarogie9796 "That's why..." Maybe, though that is different from the point I was addressing in my original comment.
